No More Mondays

No More Mondays

Well, today is Monday, the traditional day on which people return to work.  Paige, my youngest daughter, returns to college after a week of Spring Break.   It seems a lot of people can’t stand Mondays, but I’ve come to look forward to them.

Monday is a brand new start to a brand new week.  Since I work on Sunday, Monday usually is the start of my week.  It’s a great time to correct my attitude, to have a new outlook on the week, to put the past week behind me.

One of the revolutionary things that Stephen Covey taught me years ago, is to begin planning my week rather than my day.  Because I plan my week, I don’t overestimate what I can get done.  I oftentimes find myself underestimating how much I can get done in a week, rather than trying to compact everything into one day.

How is your Monday going?

What if there could be no more Mondays in your life?  By that I mean, no more days that you dread.  How sad it is to get up today and go to a j-o-b, joyless obligation box and fail to realize that wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, you can work in a way that honors God.

There is one thing that we all need to keep in mind.  We work, we perform, we live before an audience of One.  If our life is pleasing to God, it really doesn’t matter what other people think.  God ultimately will keep the score.  When people betray you, say bad things about you, fail to live up to their obligations, go behind your back and do things that are hurtful, you have a choice.  Is God in control of your life, or the weird people around you, circumstances, or events?  Monday represents that monotonous routine that people buy into.  It’s a lie from the pit of hell.

From God’s perspective, Monday is a new week, a new day, a new start, and a clean slate.  Why not begin to look forward to Mondays rather than dreading them?  Why not begin to set goals for the week, rather than the day?  Why not start new projects on Monday, make new commitments on Monday?  It gives you momentum for the week. The worst thing you can do is lay around and wait to get the week started on Tuesday.

Be a Monday person, a starter person, a person who realizes that every day is a sacred day and right now is the sacred now. Monday is a great day to be alive.  Monday is a great day to start a dream.  Monday is a great day to make that phone call.  Monday’s my day.
